Sweet
Dreams Security™
Copyright by Matthias Megyeri 2003
Fences with bunny rabbits for posts, razor-wire woven with butterflies, padlocks
shaped like teddy bears and cat-like CCTV camera covers are just part of the
Sweet Dreams Security™ range. Vicious but cute, designer Matthias Megyeri
has carved an exciting new market for security products that respond to the
uncomfortable balance of the growing demand for safety, exaggerated by the media,
and the over-saturation of ‘niceness’. So far they have enjoyed
a fantastic response from the design community and the general public, and have
been shown in the Royal College of Art end of year show, 2003, the ‘Hometime’
exhibition by the British Council in China 2003/2004, ‘Design Mart’
at Design Museum in London 2004, at the “Great Brits” exhibition
at Paul Smith HQ store in Milan during the Milan furniture fair 2005 and are
due to be included in an exhibition on critical design curated by Anthony Dunne
and Alex Ward at Israel Museum in Jerusalem 2005, in the “SAFE —
Design Takes on Risk” exhibition at the MoMA in N.Y. 2005/2006.
