We are living in a time, where people communicate through mobile phones using
short text and image messages. Limited by a small amount of data that the medium
allows to transfer. The first images able to send were 16 by 72 pixels and black
and white. On this little space the most detailed motives can be depicted. Our
minds, full of imagery, make us capable to understand a complex picture from
most simplified shapes. This is used by the mobilephone-market to promote images
that stand for desires, ideologies, status-symbols and signs of recent fashions.
Little pixel swarms start to represent the world in our minds.
The Pixel Ladies, designed by Matthias, have got the same dimensions as their
virtual counterparts, the SMS images. The three dimensional figures are made
from pure gold. They have been on show at the Valencia Bienal 2003 in Will Alsop
and Bruce Mc Lean's exhibition in the Department of Eroticism.
